About the Role
What happens to artifacts once they are excavated from the ground? During this internship, you will obtain hands on, real world experience working with archaeologists on collections excavated from sites in Southern California. You will learn the history of the collections and how to prepare, inventory, analyze, and photograph artifacts. You will also learn to prepare artifacts for curation. Further, you will learn about the Native American Graves Protection Act (NAGPRA) and California NAGPRA (CalNAGPRA) and how these laws affect museum collections. Finally, you will learn from Native American community members what the collections mean to them and their tribal community. Work will take place at either the Orange office of Cogstone Resource Management and/or at Cal State Fullerton.
