About the Role

Students with the Child Life Department engage in the following:
-Supervising and engaging children of various ages in the hospital playroom setting (includes selecting developmentally appropriate activities, assessing patient’s developmental level and interests, using appropriate language, applying safety measures like toy safety and effective sanitation, etc.)
-Providing emotional support and comfort items to patients and family members at bedside (includes speaking professionally with nurses on the hospital unit, providing activities and interventions based on your assessment of a child's developmental level, likes, needs, mood, etc.)
-Assisting the Child Life Team with various needs such as patient birthday celebrations, organizing and distributing donations from the community, special events/parties, and toy sanitation.

Requirements

-Professional skills: arriving on time, communicating clearly with staff and other volunteers, dressing appropriately in uniform, using appropriate language, maintaining positive demeanor, learning about the Child Life field as well as other medical disciplines through interactions.
